Eternal flame

by CHRISTOPHER MOSLEY

Sure, the Library Bar at the 1920s Warwick Melrose Hotel in Oak Lawn may have had a few tweaks this year, including adding a trendier cocktail menu, but you don’t go to the Library Bar for fancy drinks. You go for the elegant atmosphere, the counterintuitive intimacy in a roomful of strangers, the May-December couples. You go for the occasional piano player, who torch-sings through AM radio classics and jazz standards. You go with your friends. The Library Bar is a place to escape the after-party, still clad in evening wear, but still thinking about your next move. You don’t have to go home. Maybe you should stay here.
